My name is Dinh Chu and I am a Vietnamese Canadian borned into Buddhism. As early as I could remember I recalled having accompanied my mother to Buddhist Temples on all major holidays and remembrances. One of my favorite memories is picking small citrus fruit, I believe it was tangerine, that had been re-hung with wire onto the potted citrus plant and each had a small piece of paper secured to it with an inspirational saying. There would always be a citrus plant by the entrance of the Temple, to which I would gravitate upon arriving at the Temple. |

Sometimes while my mother was worshipping and I got bored I would hang around the citrus plant, it always tasted better than the ones purchased from the market. Another of my cherished memories is the sense of community I felt when we enjoyed the vegetarian food that the worshipers had taken great care to prepared and shared at the Temple. Though my recollections are fragmented, it is treasured memories nonetheless. |

Originally, I was never set out to do a website on Buddhism, but now it became a labour of enjoyment for me. It was, in a way, fate that I came to pen this website. A few years back when I got started with web designing and web hosting, I created my web hosting account called DARAHASA, which is an acronym for Design All, Register All, Host All, Support All. At that time I registered both darahasa.com and darahasa.ca. I used darahasa.com to host my web hosting account, and darahasa.ca was parked at the domain registry collecting dust. |
| |
I later decided to utilize the domain name darahasa.ca, but had no idea what subject to use for contents. Thus, I started the process in the normal fashion of Googling the word darahasa and see if anything pops up, and to my pleasant surprise I found that darahasa meant smile in Sanskrit, as referenced in some carnatic songs. It was at that moment that I made the connection to buddhism and decided to pen a website about the subject.
